Shaped blinds - shapes of vertical lamellae

With a normal lamellae curtain the individual lamella are connected to each other within a rail by different pull cords in regular intervals (in relation to their width). At the lower end loading panels and connecting chains ensure a smooth and regular appearance. Two chords are fixed at the upper end of the curtain, one to facilitate opening and closing the curtain and the other to rotate the lamellae. The vertical living room blinds can thus be shut, opened or turned as required. A quite simple but also complex technology also called a lamellae system, especially when the lamellae curtain is operated by an integrated electro motor or when the lamellae curtain is also fastened at the floor by a second guide rail. It can furthermore be used horizontally at roof glazings as plafond system, for instance in winter gardens.

With the horizontal or slope tension of lamellae the term vertical lamellae is not always appropriate. In such cases they rather resemble very wide sun-blinds. However, they should not be mixed up with those as the lamellae are made of fabric and thus lighter but also wider.

In the same way as you can bring vertical lamellae in a horizontal position, with the help of two guide rails, you can also adapt them to different window shapes. The upper rail can be adapted to any straight, sloping or bent shape. Therefore, gable windows, bays and arched windows are no obstacles to the installation of a lamellae curtain. Vertical blinds, where the upper and lower end are not parallel, are called slope system. Here not only exact measuring is necessary, but also the correct operation side must be determined. Thus it is ensured that, opening the sloping or vertically bent curtain, the shorter side of the curtain is moving towards the longer side and not vice versa.

Actually, no real expert knowledge is necessary for exact measuring and mounting of standard systems in your bedroom. First you measure the complete height of the window or the distance between ceiling and windowsill or floor respectively. Then you determine the width of the rail and thus also the width of the curtain. The Lamellenvorhang, as they are called in Germany, can be fixed at the ceiling of the room as well as at the wall above the window or in the window reveal. However, you should pay attention to the fact, that there should be a sufficient gap between the curtain and the pane or the wall respectively. The bedroom blinds can then glide smoothly and unobstructed.

For bigger window façades you can divide the lamellae curtain into two or more curtain parts, which can be parked at the sides or in the middle of the rail. That does not only facilitate the manual operation with very wide curtains, it is also more flexible. You can turn, open or shut every part individually and therefore dose the amount of light for the different areas of the room in various ways.

Lamellae are available in different widths, especially for the living room area. Instead of the common lamellae width of about 120 mm it is possible to select lamellae only 80 mm or 60 mm wide. This gives you, for example, more space for plants in winter gardens, as the lamellae can be fixed closer to the window pane. Of course you can also adapt the width of your bathroom blinds to the size of the window, because with smaller windows, narrower lamellae appear more elegant than wider ones.
